Power outages turn off HVAC system

In my neighborhood, the power goes out a lot.

It might stay off for a few minutes or it might stay off for a few hours, you never can tell.

I heard that our power lines are over 50 years old. The power company is replacing them slowly but that causes even more power outages. Our power goes off at least twice a day now. Since I’m at work most of the day, this shouldn’t be a big issue yet it is. You see, my HVAC system does not turn back on when the power comes back on. It must be manually turned back on otherwise it’ll just stay off. Because of this, I come home to an uncomfortably warm home almost every day in the summer. In the winter, I come home to an uncomfortably cold home everyday. After over a year of this, I finally decided to try and do something about it. I called up a heating and air conditioning company and had a technician come out on Saturday. The technician explained that it’s my thermostat that doesn’t turn my HVAC system back on after the power outages. He explained that he can fix this by replacing the thermostat. He gave me the prices on some of the older model thermostats but then he also told me about smart thermostats. They cost a little bit more but they connect to your phone, and other smart devices, and then you can control the temperature from anywhere. This sounds really nice to me. Then I can make sure I come home to a comfortable home no matter what the electricity is doing. I decided to go ahead and have the technician install a smart thermostat. It’s battery powered so I know it will work well.
