I play piano in a small Jazz quartet. We play a local lounge across town and have been for the last 10 years. It is a nice weekend side gig for me and it does pay pretty decent money. However I have to say that if it wasn’t for the great heating and air conditioning system that they have in the local lounge, a lot of us probably would not play there. Having quality heating and air conditioning is the best and only way to play long term gigs. I worked a gig at a bar one time that had the most lousy heating and air conditioning and I ended up quitting because of it. I just could not deal with the bad air quality in the place. It made my eyes dry up, and that made it hard to perform very well when playing Jazz style piano. Heating and air conditioning systems in bars and lounges are something that is hit or miss. Some of these places take their heating and cooling seriously and some do not. What’s interesting is that I noticed that the ones that do not take heating and air conditioning seriously have the worst air quality and this causes their customer base to drop. And eventually, these places will end up going out of business real fast. That is what happened to the one bar I worked at where I quit because of the bad heating and air conditioning. I actually laughed at the idiots when I read about it. If they had only cared about their heating and air conditioning, they’d still be around today!
