I’m one of those kinds of people who really like trying to do everything on my own. I don’t like asking anyone for help, and that includes professionals. Sometimes this works out in my favor, but in certain cases I really do need to call for some professional help. I guess I just like saving money, but that’s not the only thing. I just like to feel as if I’m independent and like I don’t really need extra help from anyone. That’s just how I am, I guess. Anyway, this past summer, this part of my personality really came back to bite me. I was working from home because my office building was closed down due to the silly pandemic shutdowns. It was the middle of the summer and the temperatures outside were really hot this year. I went to the thermostat unit to turn the air conditioning on, but nothing happened. I remember thinking that maybe the batteries in the thermostat were dead and that was the only problem. I changed the thermostat batteries, but that didn’t help. I wasn’t about to call the local HVAC company to come and look at the A/C, because I thought I should be able to fix it myself. I messed around with the central air conditioner for a while and then I ended up taking the whole thing apart. I made a terrible mess of it and I finally gave up and called a real A/C repairman. He told me that I could have killed myself because I didn’t take any of the proper safety precautions when I was taking apart the A/C. Maybe I should call a professional from now on.
