The air was hot and humid and I couldn’t get a single night’s sleep
Living in the city was really the only life I knew. My partner and I could go for coffee and donuts any time we wanted. We lived above an all night deli that allowed us to run downstairs and get fresh sandwiches at 3 in the morning. There were all night restaurants, movies, bars and other types of entertainment. I loved living in the city. Then, one day, my partner decided he wanted to move to the country and be closer to his family. I didn’t think it could be all that different, so I agreed to move with him. I was wrong with my assumption that living in the country couldn’t be much different than living in the city. Everything was turned upside down. I felt like I had been thrown back into the 1960’s. The first time we had to call the HVAC company, I expected them to be at the house within a couple hours. The HVAC technician didn’t arrive at the house until three days later. There was only one HVAC company in the entire community and it covered three towns. We had been having problems with the air conditioning unit and I didn’t want to go without AC for another three days. We headed to the local home store to purchase a window air conditioner for our home. We had to go home and spend a night with nothing but a ceiling fan to keep us cool. The air was hot and humid and I couldn’t get a single night’s sleep. We couldn’t wait for the home center to open at 8 the next morning so we could purchase a new window air conditioner.
