I am to the point that whenever my wife mentions we go to dinner with her family, I want to run.
I always try to get an emergency call at that point.
I have already called the company and asked them if they had any pending AC or heating calls that I could take. I know this sounds horrible. Ever since they found out I was an HVAC technician, someone always has a problem. They want advice or repairs, and they want it for free. My father-in-law is the worst. I think they invite us for dinner just so he can get his HVAC system serviced. I know exactly when the furnace and air conditioning units need to have the servicing done. We get invited for a picnic or some other eating event. If there is an emergency call, my mother-in-law miraculously has a huge roast, pan of lasagna, or some other meal in the oven. It is something that they can’t possibly finish on their own. The rest of the family is beginning to get angry with me now, because I refuse to repair their HVAC systems for free. I told them that I get paid for the work I do. If I do all of the work for free, I wouldn’t be able to feed my own family. My mother-in-law tells them that parents have special privilege and they should be grateful for my charity toward them. I feel like such a dope after that, but I refuse to do HVAC work for free anymore. We at least get a free meal from my in-laws.
