I live in an area where air conditioning repair is my main job.
With this in mind; some days can last much longer than others.
During the winter, I expected work to be a little lean. I knew that when summer arrived, I would get more steady and much busier. Even with this, I wanted my own business. I started my own company as only a weekend venture. I knew I couldn’t afford to just quit my job in the AC supply business. It took nearly a year before I was able to quit my job. I had enough customers to keep me going full-time. I hired a couple of HVAC techs during the summer. When winter arrived, I decided to go back to school and learn all about heating, air conditioning and ventilation. This helped to alleviate some of the smaller paychecks the guys would be receiving, if I were working. Our business was steadily picking up over the next five years. I now had seven HVAC technicians and nine vans. Our winters were a bit slow, which cut us back to eight hours a day. During the summer, we are running almost 24 hours a day. I don’t mind the long hours, because everyone benefits. I’m actually looking at buying a big boat and putting it out on the lake this summer. I am able to give my HVAC technicians a couple weeks off each year, with pay. They get to enjoy their summers now, as long as only one guy is out at a time. I think I deserve some time off once in a while, too. I’m the owner of a thriving HVAC company and proud of it. .
