Party is a failure after clouds part

Several months ago my daughter requested that we throw a birthday party for her in the middle of summer. Normally, she gets screwed because her birthday is in the dead of winter. It’s difficult to have any kind of get-together or social event when it’s too cold to even go outside. People don’t want to leave their houses in the middle of a blizzard when they have amazing heating systems keeping them alive at home. As such, she asked if we could possibly have a summer party for her instead of forcing the issue in January. We were more than happy to arrange a gathering for her birthday in the dead of the summer season. We didn’t anticipate that it would be impossible to have an indoor gathering with air conditioning. At that point, there was no reason to believe that social distancing would be real. As such, we did our best to throw an outdoor gathering despite the heat and humidity. Everything was going well and it was relatively cool outside on the morning of her party. However, then the clouds parted and the desire for air conditioning began. As soon as the summer sun was streaming down on us it began to heat up outside. We couldn’t let anyone inside to utilize our central AC system. It was wonderful to walk into the air-conditioned house but I felt guilty that our guests were sweating outdoors. We try to set up some fans to provide circulation in lieu of the cooling system. However, it was just too hot. Our guests wound up leaving several hours early to use their own AC units. My daughter had another miserable birthday party.
