A Hot Classroom

School is supposed to be a fun place to learn.

However, if the classroom is too hot or too cold it slows down the learning process for the children in that class.

That happened to me when I was teaching Preschool one time and it was not fun. I had 15 three year olds in a small classroom and anyone who has been around children know that they stay active all the time. We went outside to the playground and when we came back in the room seemed to be as hot as it was outside. I checked the thermostat and the display read 73 degrees, but it felt more like it was 80 degrees. I informed the director of the Preschool and she called the local HVAC company to make an appointment to have one of the a/c technicians come out and assess the situation. She moved my class into an empty room where the a/c worked correctly while the technicians walked in and out of the room getting to work. The children enjoyed the change of environment and it allowed us to have more of a free day to play than anything. It took the rest of the day and into the next to repair what was broken. My children were saddened when they were told we were moving back to our classroom until they found out the air conditioner was working again. We always had fun in my classroom and they wanted to get back to the fun again! I was quite thankful to the HVAC technicians for making my classroom a place the children could get back to learning again.
